Why it is important to choose the right running shoes πββοΈ
Running is one of the most popular forms of exercise, and choosing the right shoes is essential for a comfortable and injury-free running experience. However, it’s important to understand that one type of shoe may not be suitable for all types of running. In this blog, we’ll explore why it’s important to select the right running shoes for your run and how having multiple running shoes can have benefits for different types of training.
Wearing the wrong running shoes can lead to a variety of injuries, including for example blisters, shin splints, and plantar fasciitis. The right shoe can provide support, cushioning, and stability, helping to reduce the risk of injury and make your runs more comfortable.
Running shoes are designed to support different types of foot arches, pronation styles, and running surfaces. For example, some shoes are designed for flat feet, while others are designed for high arches. Similarly, some shoes are designed for overpronators, while others are designed for supinators or neutral runners. Additionally, some shoes are designed for road running, while others are designed for trail running.
Research
Weβve conducted a small research to understand the main reasons from our ARION community on how they choose running shoes. As seen in the image on the left, 51% of the voters mentioned that stability/support is one of the deciding factors to choose a pair of running shoes. Followed by injury prevention (32%), speed/efficiency (8%) and other reasons (8%). This research shows that every runner has their own deciding factor to buy a pair of running shoes, which is why there are so many different running shoes out there.
The Benefits of Multiple Running Shoes
Having multiple running shoes can have benefits for different types of training. For example, having a lightweight, minimalist shoe can be beneficial for speedwork and races, while having a shoe with more cushioning and support can be beneficial for long runs or recovery runs.
Different shoes can also be beneficial for different types of running surfaces. For example, a shoe designed for trail running can provide better traction and protection on uneven terrain, while a shoe designed for road running can provide better cushioning and support on hard surfaces.
Furthermore, having multiple running shoes can help prolong the life of your shoes. Rotating between shoes can give each pair time to recover and decompress, which can help to extend their lifespan and prevent them from wearing out too quickly.
Selecting the right shoe for running is essential for a comfortable and injury-free running experience. Having multiple running shoes can provide benefits for different types of training and running surfaces, as well as help prolong the life of your shoes. So, the next time you’re in the market for a new pair of running shoes, consider investing in multiple pairs to maximize the benefits of your training.
